Historic sources often refer to this pigment as „giallolino“. Lead tin yellow has been used as a pigment for painting since the middle ages. As a coloured glass this lead-tin-compound is known since ancient times and thus is one of the oldest synthetic yellow pigments. Lead tin yellow II is produced in the colour mill by heating a mixture of quartz, lead- and tin oxides in ceramic pots up to 600 - 800 °C. This pigment is darker than Lead tin yellow type I and has a warmer hue. With 0 - 63 µ it is also slightly coarser and more transparent.
