Color Index Code: PBk 8 (Pigment Black 8)

For a long time, chars of different kinds of fruit seeds have been used as pigments. However, the resulting black pigments are by no means identical. We offer three different black pigments made from charred seeds: Cherry black, grape black and peach black. Cherry black is a warmer, more brownish-black hue than the frosted peach black and the bluish-black grape black. A very good black pigment can also be made from chars of bones, deer antlers, and ivory, ivory black being the most intense, deep black pigment used by painters. In any case, the process of carbonization requires a constant high temperature without any oxygenation. The homogenous structure of the carbon skeleton determines the quality of the black pigment: The more even the composition of the original material, the better the structure of the carbonized product.
