Sourced directly from the historic limestone deposits of France, Champagne Chalk is a premium, natural calcium carbonate prized by artists for centuries. 

It is the traditional standard for crafting true gesso grounds with rabbit skin glue, and serves as an excellent, semi-transparent extender for adding body and texture to oil paints without compromising your color profile.

Studio Uses: Traditional Gesso: When mixed with rabbit skin glue, it creates the ultimate smooth, absorbent ground for oil and egg tempera painting.

• Paint Extender (Impasto): It has a low refractive index, meaning that when you mix it with linseed oil, it becomes semi-transparent. Painters use it to add body, texture, and volume to oil paint without altering or muddying the pigment's actual color.
• Pastels: It acts as a beautiful, soft white base and filler for making handmade pastels and gouache.
