Cyclododecane

Cyclododecane serves as a reversible consolidant for conservation work across paintings, textiles, and stone artifacts. This waxy compound dissolves readily in white spirit (60–90°C), pentane-hexane blends, or can be applied molten. With a melting point of 58–61°C, it provides temporary adhesion, stabilization, and protective barriers during aqueous treatments, cleaning procedures, and transport. The substance is non-toxic and water-repellent, sublimating completely within 20–48 hours without residual buildup. Ideal for shielding delicate surfaces when using water-based solutions, aqueous adhesives, or mortar applications where reversibility is essential.
