Mastic

Mastic is the most flexible of the triterpene resins. It is translucent, yellowish in color and slightly aromatic. It is soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons, turpentine, white spirit and in alcohol.

It is usually used in the preparation of binders (mixed with wax or oil) and varnishes, by dipping a gauze with 100 gr. of pearls in 300 ml. of turpentine or white spirit, as well as with Dammar. It gives a soft and elastic varnish, of great duration.
