Indigo, synthetic

As with all energy and time-consuming processes, work began early on to develop a faster and simpler alternative to natural indigo. In 1878, the chemist Adolf von Baeyer succeeded in producing synthetic indigo. It has the same chemical composition as natural indigo. The indigo content of synthetic indigo is higher than that of natural indigo.
